Color Theory Tips
Pro TipUse the 60-30-10 rule: 60% dominant color, 30% secondary, and 10% accent for a balanced design.
AccessibilityEnsure your text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for standard text to meet WCAG AA standards.

Quick answer
Upload an image to extract a compact set of visually distinct dominant colors. You can choose the palette size, sort swatches by frequency, lightness, or hue, edit the result, and export it for design or code.
Quick guide
How to generate a color palette from an image
Turn the dominant colors in a photo, screenshot, or illustration into an editable starting point for a visual system. Image analysis runs locally in your browser.
- 1
Choose an image
Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP file. Clear images with a deliberate color range usually produce the most useful palette.
- 2
Review the extracted colors
Compare the dominant swatches, click a color to pivot the harmony suggestions, and keep the combinations that fit your project.
- 3
Export for your workflow
Copy individual colors or export HEX, CSS variables, Tailwind colors, JSON, or a PNG reference.
Practical uses
UI and web design
Translate a product image or mood board into background, surface, accent, and supporting colors.
Brand exploration
Build an initial brand-kit direction from photography, packaging, artwork, or an existing visual reference.
Creative production
Keep illustration, social graphics, and presentation assets visually connected to one source image.
Method and accuracy
How this tool works
The browser downsizes the image for bounded work, skips pixels with low alpha, groups nearby samples into a compact histogram, then runs deterministic clustering in the perceptual OKLab space. Cluster centers are converted back to representative sRGB colors and ranked by their sampled frequency. The extraction runs in a Web Worker so it does not block the interface.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The image is decoded and analyzed inside your browser, so the file is not sent to UI Color Picker.
Which image formats are supported?
Use a valid JPG, PNG, or WebP image up to 10 MB. SVG and invalid or unsupported files are rejected.
Which palette export formats are available?
You can export colors as a HEX list, CSS variables, Tailwind configuration, JSON data, or a PNG palette image.
